A vivid Amanita muscaria mushroom meets a delicate conifer sprig in this three-color Risograph card by Christopher Payne of Salted Teeth. The spare pairing gives both subjects room to stand out, while the Riso process adds its characteristic soft texture and subtle variation to the botanical illustration.

Printed on 80 lb. Starch White Speckletone cover stock from French Paper Co., the card has the tactile, lightly flecked character of the paper itself. An embossed envelope completes the piece, and the blank interior leaves the message entirely up to you.

Originally printed in a run of 200 in 2019, the design returned for a second printing of 200 in 2021.

Why We Love It

Amanita muscaria hardly needs help making an entrance, but pairing that bright mushroom with a single conifer sprig gives the whole composition a lovely restraint.

We also love knowing the print history. Two runs of just 200 cards, separated by two years, make this feel less like mass-produced stationery and more like a small piece of Christopher Payne’s printmaking practice that happens to be sendable.
