One ranch. One long night. Hold the line.
The Long Night at The Spur is a western(ish) fantasy siege adventure for Dungeons & Dragons 5e, designed for level 10 characters.
Your party has one job: help an elderly orc rancher defend his compound through the night.
As the siege unfolds, you'll need more than brute force to keep the ranch standing. Prepare defenses, make tactical choices, work together, and deal with whatever the night sends your way as high fantasy collides with the grit and swagger of a western.
The adventure includes dedicated siege mechanics along with NPCs, magical items, locations, and some particularly appropriate boompowder weaponry for adventurers who feel that defending a ranch could use a little more explosion.
What’s Inside
Siege mechanics give structure to defending Orok's Compound and the tactical decisions your party makes throughout the night.
A cast of NPCs populates the ranch, its surroundings, and the conflict unfolding around it.
Two new magical items give the party a couple more tools when things get difficult.
Orok’s Compound map and location descriptions help the GM navigate the ranch and surrounding area.
A dozen locations provide additional places to explore and ideas that can extend beyond the one-shot.
Boompowder weaponry brings a little explosive western(ish) energy to the proceedings.
Why We Love It
You're defending the place instead of exploring it. A siege changes the usual adventuring rhythm: the party knows where the trouble is coming, and this time they're the ones trying to make the location difficult to breach.
It's western enough to have swagger without giving up the fantasy. Orc rancher. Magical items. Boom-powered weapons. We're comfortable with the “ish.”
Level 10 characters get to dig in. Experienced adventurers have considerable abilities at their disposal, and a defensive scenario gives them a different problem to solve with all that power.
There's material to wander beyond the one-shot. NPCs and a dozen locations give GMs pieces they can borrow, revisit, or build into something larger if The Spur earns another night at the table.
