Hasami Shogi, often called “Scissor Chess,” is a clever, fast-moving Japanese strategy game where captures happen by pinching an opponent’s piece between two of your own—snip, snip.

Command an army of 18 samurai warriors, outmaneuver your opponent, and race to be the first to form five in a row. The rules are approachable enough for young players to pick up quickly, but there’s plenty of strategy hiding inside each move—making it particularly good for a quick “one more round.”

This edition appears in Volume 1: LUDOS Asia, part of a collection created to preserve games of the past for generations of the future.
