Shelley Couvillion’s Sapphire Books Washi Tape is lined with individually illustrated books in rich shades of blue, creating a miniature library that stretches across the page.

Rather than repeating a handful of stock book shapes, Shelley drew each little volume specifically for this design. Look closely and the shelves begin to feel collected rather than patterned—different bindings, shapes, details, and personalities tucked together in one wonderfully bookish strip.

Part of Shelley’s Rainbow Books collection, Sapphire Books brings a cool, inky palette to journals, reading logs, planners, correspondence, collages, and anything else that could use a few more books. Which is most things, really.

Why We Love It

There is no such thing as too many books. Even very, very small ones.

What makes this design special is the detail. Every little book was drawn for the tape rather than simply repeated to fill the pattern, so there’s something new to notice as you unroll it.

We also love the deep sapphire palette. It's unmistakably bookish without relying on the usual cozy-library browns and creams—and it looks especially lovely alongside black, cream, gold, botanical greens, and other jewel tones.

About Shelley Couvillion

Shelley Couvillion is an illustrator and designer whose work draws from books, folklore, history, nature, and wonderfully specific bits of cultural ephemera. Her stationery and paper goods have the feeling of tiny illustrated discoveries—sometimes literary, sometimes peculiar, and frequently both.
