Picture it: Shady Pines. Four senior shelter animals. A lifetime of stories. And somebody has brought snacks.
Inspired by the cozy chaos of The Golden Girls, The Goodest Girls is a stand-alone tabletop roleplaying game about a tight-knit group of supposedly “un-adoptable” senior shelter animals living their very best lives together at Shady Pines.
Together, you'll create your sitcom world and the paw-inspiring characters who inhabit it. Then it's time for a flashback episode, reminiscing about the adventures, mishaps, friendships, and questionable decisions your lovable old fuzzballs have shared.
And when challenges arise? Forget rolling for initiative. You may find yourself attempting a stupid human trick instead—making goofy faces, eating crackers without your hands, or tackling some equally dignified feat.
Succeed, and you might even earn a treat.
Why We Love It
Senior shelter animals in a sitcom. We were sold remarkably early in this explanation.
The table becomes part of the game. Players don't just describe ridiculous challenges—the game's treat-and-trick mechanic brings some of that silliness into the real world.
You build Shady Pines together. Characters, relationships, memories, and the world of the shelter emerge collaboratively, making the game as much about creating comedy together as completing challenges.
The treats can be treasure. Candy and crackers work, but so do stickers, patches, gemstones, or cool dice—which is an objectively excellent interpretation of the word “treat.”
Who Will You Be?
Perhaps you're the arrogant, sarcastic Dorothy of the group.
Maybe you're more vain and charming, like Blanche.
Or naive and wonderfully quirky, like Rose.
And somebody surely has to bring the tough, wise-cracking Sophia energy.
Whatever your particular flavor of senior-animal chaos, you'll create your own character and the memories this unlikely little family shares.
About the Treats
Each player brings a stash of shareable treats, agreed upon by the group before play. These become narrative lures that help drive the story, resolve challenges, and make play delightfully interactive.
Treats might be edible—such as candy, crackers, cookies, or fruit snacks—or tiny treasures like:
- Stickers
- Patches
- Gemstones
- Cool dice
Yes. You can apparently reward your friends with dice. We approve.
